Training on presentation of DNA expertise in court

PAMECA V organised and delivered a training course on presentation of DNA expertise in court for experts of the Biological and DNA Sector of the Forensic Science Institute”, on 27 -31 January 2020.

The aim of this training was to prepare DNA specialists on how to present their analytical reports to the Court. The training focused on how to draft a report, how to present statistics on single and mixed profiles, match probabilities and the explanation of concepts, comparison and identification of profiles related to criminal cases, contamination issues, management of hypothesis coming from defence lawyers, etc.

This training helped DNA experts to further enhance their performance and develop their professional skills and capacities, regarding the presentation of DNA analysis in court and the documentation required to satisfy the compliance with ISO 17025 standard.

The training was delivered by the Head of the Forensic Biology Department of the French Gendarmerie, having 18 years of work experience with the Forensic Science Laboratory of the French Gendarmerie.

PAMECA V will continue to support the Forensic Science Institute and in particular the Biological and DNA Sector of this Institute in the future in enhancing capacities and skills of DNA specialists regarding the presentation of DNA analysis in court, avoidance of logical fallacies and formulation of propositions.
