In the framework of PAMECA IV Work Plan and in particular of Activity 2.7, which provides for developing further corruption analysis and internal cooperation and coordination among relevant institutions, PAMECA IV organised the Workshop on “Introducing the EU experience on non-conviction based confiscation of assets”. The Workshop was held on 2nd and 3rd of November 2015, at the premises of School of Magistrates with the participation of judges of First Instance Court of Serious Crimes, prosecutors of Serious Crime Prosecution Office and Tirana District Prosecution Office, representatives of Sector on Criminal Assets at Albanian State Police, and representatives of Directory of Codification at Ministry of Justice. Two Italian prosecutors, respectively Mr. Antonio Balsamo and Mr. Francesco Menditto introduced their best practice and shared concrete cases on conviction based confiscation of assets.
Mr. Sander Simoni, Chief Judge of Serious Crime Court and Mr. Gentian Osmani, Prosecutor at Serious Crime Prosecution Office introduced specific issues on the implementation of Anti-Mafia legislation and the addressed the necessity to amend the current law.
The Workshop served to exchange views and practical experience with Albanian counterparts on non-conviction based confiscation of assets, followed by a professional and interactive technical discussion.
