Assessment of the signal coverage area – reconfiguration for the WAN of the TETRA radio communication system of IMOC

One of the aims of the PAMECA project is to improve blue border surveillance. In this context, improvements were assessed necessary in several technical issues.
In order to perform a technical needs assessment, PAMECA mobilized a STE from 21 – 25 September for preparatory work on the following three activities:
• Study A: TETRA Coverage Area
• Study B: Microwave Transmission Network
• Study C: Ship Information Database
In order to draw the necessary conclusions, the STE Harald Ludwig was given the opportunity to attend meetings with all responsible stakeholders and inspect already existing facilities.
In a concluding session on 25 September, a first assessment could already be presented to the stakeholders. This assessment will now be further elaborated and will form the basis for further activities aiming at the improvement of the TETRA coverage, stabilize and enhance the Microwave Transmission network and improve communication between all parties involved on Ship information by proposing a concept for a common database, which should facilitate work for all parties involved, but – at the same time – improve horizontal communication.
