On 22 November 2018, PAMECA V in cooperation with UNODC organised a workshop on “Standardisation and Institutionalisation of Crime Statistics”, attended by representatives of Albanian State Police, the General Prosecution Office, Ministry of Justice, the Institute of Statistics, EURALIUS, OSCE and IPA 2017 Project.
The opening remarks were delivered by PAMECA V Deputy Team Leader, Mr Carmine Pirozzoli, the Director of INSTAT, Ms Delina Ibrahimaj, and UNODC Representative, Ms Macarena Torres Rossel.
The main topics of discussion were the methodological approach of data collection, processing and elaboration of statistical data, alignment of data collection procedure with the EUROSTAT standards, and setting of coordination mechanisms in establishing reliable and comparable statistical data among law enforcement institutions. During a lively discussion several issues related to statistics sector in Albania were raised and it was stressed the need of establishing a coordination mechanisms between Albanian institutions that can help avoid any inconsistency in data collection and analysis especially in view of the EU integration process of Albania.
The final remarks were delivered by Mr Steven Stork from EU Delegation and Mr Carlo D’Achille, PAMECA V Team Leader that both underlined the importance at EU level of reliable statistics as a tool to determine correct strategies to handle the real problems of Albania.
