The Team Leader of PAMECA IV was invited to speak to journalists from various EU countries in an event organised in Tirana at the premises of General Directorate of the Albanian State Police, on 14 May 2014. This event was organised by the DG Enlargement of the European Commission.
Minister of Interior Mr Tahiri, Charge D’Affairs of the EUD in Tirana, Mr Clive Rumboldt as well as representatives from the GPO and the Ministry of Justice of Albania were in front of the EU MS journalists to present and answer questions on projects funded by the EU’s Instrument Pre-Accession Program (IPA) in the area of border security, fight against corruption and organised crime and human rights.
Mr Butini gave a short overview of the PAMECA IV project, its main beneficiaries, main areas of intervention and key activities carried out so far. Mr Butini mentioned that Albania has benefitted considerable assistance by the EU in the area of law enforcement throughout the years, starting with MAPE mission, then with PAMECA I, II, III and now IV. Although working along the same lines, the size and the focus of the subsequent missions has been different throughout the years of assistance and this due to the progress made by Albania thanks to the country’s willingness and efforts and the assistance offered.
