In the framework of the Activity 3.3 “Support to enhance technical and institutional capacity of relevant agencies in order to address the ever growing challenges”, PAMECA V organized a two day workshop on the development of a national Ship Database. The workshop was held on November 13-14. A short term expert already involved in two previous missions organised by PAMECA on the subject was recruited and deployed to deliver the workshop. Held at the Inter-Institutional Maritime Operational Centre (IMOC) premises, the workshop was attended by officials of Border and Migration Police, Fishery Authority, Coast Guard, Navy, Harbour Master representing their institutions in IMOC as well as by a representative of ICITAP.
There is no ship data base at IMOC, ship records are kept in hard copy in the respective registers of each IMOC member institution. The workshop’s objective was to advance with the concept and design of the ship database by further elaborating its relevant technical and commercial aspects. The participants contributed to the discussions that took place during the workshop. Elements such as the system’s work flow, the stakeholder requirements, hardware and software technical specifications, budgeting and the procurement documents and procedure, were widely discussed and served as a starting point for the future steps to follow.
