Study visit in Italy (Sicily) as a joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Justice mission in Albania (OPDAT).

In the framework of the Component two and specifically activity 2.2 ‘Support to enhance the investigation capacity (ASP & GPO) in the fight against OC also with reference to financial dimension of the phenomenon’ PAMECA IV organised a study visit in Italy (Sicily) as a joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Justice mission in Albania (OPDAT).
The study visit took place on 20th May – 23rd May 2014 focusing on ‘Fighting organised crime and confiscation of assets of illicit origin’ with the participation of SCPO Prosecutors, SCC judges and JP from the Section attached to Serious Crime Prosecution Office, for a total of 10 participants. The successful study visit was focused on the Italian system in fighting organized crimes and in detecting and confiscating illicit assets also under the application of the anti-mafia law. To this aim several meeting were set up in Palermo and Trapani with representatives of Courts, Prosecution Offices and Law Enforcement Agencies, specialised on those topics, such as: Courts of Palermo and Trapani (Section in charge of anti-mafia preventive measures), Anti-Mafia District Prosecution Office of Palermo, Prosecution Office of Trapani, D.I.A. (Anti-Mafia Investigations Department) of Palermo and Trapani, G.I.C.O. (Investigative Group on Organized Crime) of Guardia di Finanza of Palermo.
